Yes — and this is one of the most common jobs we do in Mount Clear. Most post-2000 homes here have standard aluminium frames that are in good structural condition, but carry single-pane glass that performs poorly in Ballarat’s winters.

Retrofit double glazing means we remove the existing single-pane glass unit and replace it with a factory-sealed double-glazed unit (two panes with a gas-filled gap) that fits the same frame rebate. The frame stays. The wall stays. You get the thermal performance of a full window replacement at a fraction of the cost and disruption.

Not every aluminium frame is deep enough — we’ll assess yours on the free measure and advise honestly if a full replacement is needed instead.

Under Victoria’s Building Regulations 2018, all swimming pools and spas capable of holding more than 300mm of water must be enclosed by a compliant safety barrier — regardless of when the pool was built.

• The barrier must be at least 1.2m high with no climbable handholds on the outside
• Gates must be self-closing and self-latching, opening away from the pool
• There must be a non-climbable zone (NCZ) of at least 900mm on the outside of the fence
• Glass panels must be toughened safety glass, minimum 8mm thick for frameless

Cracked sliding door glass almost always requires full pane replacement rather than repair — glass cracks propagate under load and a cracked pane is a structural and safety risk, particularly if it’s a toughened panel (which can shatter suddenly if the crack reaches a critical point).

The good news is that standard sliding door glass panels used in Mount Clear’s newer homes are a common stock size. In many cases we can supply and fit a replacement pane in one visit using glass we carry on the van.

• Installation day: we install the wall channels or hinges, hang the glass panels, fit the door hardware, and check the seal

You can typically use the shower again within a few hours of installation once any silicone sealant has cured.

Both are safety glass types required in certain locations under Australian Standard AS 1288, but they behave differently:

• Toughened (tempered) glass is heat-treated to be 4–5× stronger than standard glass. When it breaks, it shatters into small blunt fragments rather than sharp shards. Required in shower screens, pool fencing, and doors. Most common in Mount Clear homes.
• Laminated glass has a plastic interlayer (PVB) bonded between two glass panes. When broken, the fragments stick to the interlayer — the pane cracks but stays largely intact. Required in overhead glazing (skylights, sloped glass), frameless balustrades, and some bushfire zones.
